About Hearth & Lawn

Hearth & Lawn is a small, independent UK website operated by Approved Tradesmen Limited. We write plain-English buying guides for running a home and garden well, and cheaply: keeping warm and dry in winter, and keeping the garden in shape in summer.

How we research

We don't test products ourselves, and we won't pretend to. Our picks are based on:

• makers' published specifications;
• UK retailer listings, including prices and stock on the day we checked;
• independent tests and reviews, such as Which? and BBC Gardeners' World Magazine, which we name and link to;
• patterns in owner reviews, treated with caution.

Every guide shows when it was last updated, lists its sources, and points out where sources disagree. Running costs are worked out from Ofgem's published price cap, and we show the sum so you can check it against your own tariff.

What we won't do

• Claim hands-on testing we haven't done.
• Let commission decide which products we include or how we rank them.
• Hide that a link is an advert. Retailer links are labelled (Ad).

How we make money

Hearth & Lawn is reader-supported. Some retailer links may be affiliate links, which pay us a small commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. See our affiliate disclosure.
